All students on the course take this module in the first semester.

Along with modules DJ11001 Ways of Drawing and DJ11003 Connecting Colour & Symbol, you will get an introduction to a key aspect of Art & Design.

This module has a specific focus on three-dimensional making.

Along with modules DJ11001 Ways of Drawing and DJ11002 Thinking through Making, you will be introduced to a key aspect of Art & Design.

This module has a specific focus on Colour.

You will select up to three specialist subjects. You will taking practical project-based blocks in each one.

By progressing through this, you will determine which subject specialism is the right one for you for your second year of study.

You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of art and design ideas. This will serve as an underpinning to your studio practice.

The module consists of a series of weekly lectures delivered by a variety of different speakers.

This module will provide you with experience of designing concepts within a variety of open-source programming languages and hardware to develop physical interactions. You will gain the confidence to creatively integrate physical hardware and code into future design projects and access an open-source learning community of designer makers

Being able to design objects that use the internet to connect people and services together is an important part of a designer's toolkit.

You will work with open-source microcontroller platforms like Arduino. These will be used on working hardware and software prototypes.

This involves coding, testing, building, and communicating concepts.

Empower yourself as a designer through building and enhancing your academic research skills.

Hone your ability to understand and communicate key ideas and theories that are relevant to designers working today.

Find your own voice as a researcher by investigating a topic that is right for you.

Your main focus on the module will be based in the studio. You will produce a portrait work or series of works.

You will also attend lectures, group crits and seminars. These will explore aspects of the history, practice and importance of portraiture in a broadly based visual practice.

In this module, you will explore contemporary and historical printmaking techniques through printmaking within tutorials specific to your print workshop explorations.

The historical evolution of print will be studied, as well as contemporary printmaking practices through lectures and the writing of a print themed essay.

You will explore comic creation practices and theory using interdisciplinary approaches, and to learn about different options for working professionally in the comics field, while developing your own short-form comic. You will get the chance to practise the skills using both traditional and digital methods.

You will work in interdisciplinary teams to solve real world problems. You will develop your skills as makers and creatives. This will allow you to challenge and consider opportunities within the brief they are set.

You will explore different aspects of photography as an element of art and design practise. You will enhance your skills and options in using the camera as one of the many creative tools at your disposal.

You will be introduced to the principles and practices of moving images, integrating story-telling, narrative development, scripting, sound design, production, and post-production.

These practice-based skills will be underpinned and enhanced by film theory and history, film language, and techniques to give students a holistic understanding of moving images.

You will systematically reflect on your creative processes.

You will also explore innovative AI applications that enhance human creativity.
