Cardiovascular Research
Our research reaches across the translational spectrum from bench to bedside, including laboratory-based, clinical trials and outcomes-focused research.
Our objectives are to provide cardiovascular clinical and research leadership at a national and international level, perform high quality cardiovascular research which directly impacts patient care and outcomes, and to provide high quality teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
We’ve been ranked first in the UK for impact in Clinical Medicine, in large part due to our groundbreaking cardiovascular discoveries. From the development of the waist-to-hip-ratio as a more accurate cardiovascular risk factor than BMI, to key studies used by the UK government to legislate on e-cigarettes, we’re impacting population health for the better.
Our place within Ninewells Hospital, and associated Institutes and Centres, makes the division ideally located to support laboratory, clinical and translational research, as well as implement the outcomes of our research into improvements in clinical practice. In this optimal environment, our leading researchers are able to provide life-changing impacts on the people in our communities locally and globally.
