Biography
David is Professor of Business Finance and a member of staff within the Accounting & Finance discipline in the School of Business since 1987. He is currently the Programme Lead for the Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) degree.
After completing his undergraduate studies at the University College Cork in Ireland, David graduated with an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics. Thereafter David completed a PhD in Finance from the University of Dundee where he was a member of staff. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the British Accounting Review, International Journal of Finance & Economics, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Review of Quantitative Finance & Accounting.

Research
My research about the introduction of a new accounting standard on Segmental Reporting (IFRS 8 Operating Segments) was cited by the International Accounting Standards Board when conducting their post-implementation review of the standard. This work was the basis of an impact case in the 2016 REF.
I was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Accounting & Finance Association in October 2020.
