The module is designed to provide an in-depth examination of
the determinants of the pattern of international trade specialisation as is observable in the real world and
trade policy and the welfare effects of trade restrictions for an individual country, regional grouping and the world as a whole.
The theoretical aspects will be complemented with a close inspection of some topical issues, such as labour standards and the quest for "fair trade" and the role of multinational corporations in the global economy.
