The page offers a collection of free educational resources in microbiology. It is designed to help children and young people learn about microbiology through interactive, hands-on activities, videos, and games. The resources are divided by age group.
Primary (up to 12 years)
- Exploring Microbiology workbook. Learn about the magnificent world of microbes through this interactive workbook, which includes activities such as drawing your own microbe, find-a-word, spot the difference and design a scientist.
- Images of Microbiology. A collection of high-quality images of a variety of microbes, linked with the Microbe Wall at Dundee Science Centre.
- Images of Microbiology activity book. This workbook pairs with the Images of Microbiology book to give pupils fun and engaging activities such as colouring in pages and word searches. Contains a helpful answer guide.
- Images of Microbiology 2. The second edition showcasing the diverse array of microbiology research undertaken at the University of Dundee.
- Hidden Life on your Hands – video and teachers’ guide. Introduces children to basic concepts of microbiology, highlighting the diversity of microbial life present on our hands normally invisible to the naked eye.
- Biofilm Building: A Simple Board Game to Reinforce Knowledge of Biofilm Formation. A board game designed to raise awareness and knowledge of biofilms in young learners. Aimed at 8 – 12-year-olds.
- Microbe Motels: An Interactive Method to Introduce the Human Microbiome. The human body is occupied by an immense number of microorganisms collectively referred to as the “human microbiota.” This hands-on activity introduces the intestinal microbiota in a fun and engaging way.
- Bacterial biofilms: Did you know they can help us? - article and accompanying video. In this article we will give you examples of the amazing things biofilms can do for us, from helping remove oil spills in the oceans to helping our plants and crops stay healthy!
Secondary (12 – 18 years)
