These online courses will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your leadership and management skills in childcare settings. They also allow you to support children's learning and development through contemporary theory and practice.

Childhood Practice BA is accredited by the Scottish Social Services Council. This means it is suitable for students registered in Scotland.

Childhood Studies BA offers the same learning and development opportunities for students globally.

These courses will prepare you to become a primary school teacher. They will provide you with qualified teacher status.

Who is the Master of Education for?

The Master of Education (MEd) is designed for teachers and education professionals who want to deepen their understanding of educational theory, research, and practice. Our courses are designed to fit around busy working teachers, with a fully online and asynchronous design. Optional live sessions are held throughout. 

There are six MEd pathways, and the name of your qualification matches the modules you select. Choose the pathway that best matches your role, interests, and career goals:

• Educational Leadership: explore leadership and change in education, including strategy, improvement and professional practice.
• Inclusive Education: develop expertise in inclusive approaches that support diverse learners and equitable participation.
• International Education: examine education in global and comparative contexts, including policy, culture and international practice.
• Leading Learning and Teaching in Education: strengthen practice and impact through advanced study of learning, teaching and curriculum.
• Nursery and Early Education: focus on early years education, child development and research-informed practice in nursery and primary settings.
• TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages): deepen knowledge of language learning, teaching approaches and classroom practice for English language education.

How does the IB fit in to the MEd? 

We work closely with the IBO to offer the IB Educator Certificates as part of a Dual Award with our Master of Education degrees. This means that you can take one course and graduate with both the Masters degree and the IBEC qualification. There are three different IBEC certificates, linked to different pathways through our degrees and different exit points, and they also have slightly different entry requirements:

Do I need to travel to the UK to study for the Master of Education? 

No. The courses are delivered fully online, and there's no requirement to visit the UK to study, apply, or graduate. You're welcome to attend your graduation ceremony in Dundee if you'd like to, but it isn't required. 

What comes after an MEd?

After completing a Master of Education degree, many teachers move into leadership roles in schools, in state or private sectors, in colleges, training roles and professional development organisations within Education. A good proportion of our graduates embark on Doctoral studies, and many go on to work in research and policy around the world.
