This course is an intensive, demanding and rewarding route to qualification as a teacher.
It has been developed and is taught by a passionate and experienced team of lecturers who have all been teachers. This means that you will receive comprehensive and stimulating preparation for a career in teaching.
When you successfully complete this course, you will gain provisional registration as a primary teacher. This means you will be able to work with children from 3 to 14 years old.
This course combines two on-campus study modules with three school-based professional practice placements.
You will gain vital classroom skills and experience. You will also learn about the theoretical foundations of what it means to be a teacher.
You will benefit from being part of a friendly and helpful learning community, whose collective aim is to support one another.
You will also receive individual support from a tutor who will be allocated to you.
Your tutor will be with you throughout the course. They will be able to provide you with assistance through tutorials and one-to-one meetings.
Your tutor will visit and assess you on each of your placements. You will also have access to an Adviser of Studies.
On-campus modules will include a range of workshops and lectures in each area of the primary curriculum.
You will learn the skills and knowledge required. This means you will be able to teach from nursery stage through to level 4 of Broad General Education. You will learn this across taught modules and experiences on placement.
In addition to the core elements of the course, you will also be able to choose from a range of elective options. Some of these are focused on employability, others on specific aspects of curriculum and pedagogy.
“I highly recommend this course as the support and guidance received from the programme staff is exceptional. Lectures are fun and engaging, and allow us as students to see the potential we have to develop in curricular areas, to become the best teachers we can be.”
