Study at any of the four university library sites
Interactive Maps
For each of our library sites an interactive map is available. Use these maps to locate books and journals, and other facilities and services. You can also check the availability and book our study rooms.
Main Library
The Main Library is one of four Library sites at the University. It is located on the City Campus at Smalls Wynd.
The Main Library has an access control system with four security gates regulating both entry and exit. Everyone visiting the building is required to scan a current membership or ID card for access.
Staff and students from the University of Dundee should open the gates using their University of Dundee ID card or barcode tile generated on the University of Dundee app.
Other members of the Library should open the gates using the barcode on their library membership card.
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) Library
Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) Library is located on level 4 of the Matthew Building, Perth Road.
The Matthew Building has an access control system.
Staff and students from the University of Dundee should call at DJCAD Reception (Monday - Friday 09:00 - 16:45) to have their University of Dundee ID card activated for access.
Other members of the Library should produce their library membership card at DJCAD Reception to be admitted.
Robertson Trust Medical Library
The Robertson Trust Medical Library is located in Ninewells Hospital & Medical School.
24 hour access to the Medical Library is regulated by an access control system and is only available to staff and students from the University of Dundee, and to NHS Tayside members of the Library. To have your NHS Tayside ID or University of Dundee ID card enabled, please contact the Medical Library with details of the proximity code from the reverse of your card. On checking your library record, your request for access will be forwarded to NHS Tayside.
Kirkcaldy Campus Library
The Kirkcaldy Campus Library is located on Forth Avenue, Kirkcaldy - on the first floor of Fife Campus.
To access the library before 09:00 Monday-Friday, staff and students from the University of Dundee should ring the doorbell at the main entrance door, or phone the caretaker (number displayed at the door), and show their University of Dundee ID card to be admitted.
Other members of the Library should show their library membership card and another form of photographic ID.
Access and membership
Staff and students are automatically members of the library, please remember your ID card to access our libraries.
The library welcomes memberships from members of the public; Graduates of Dundee University; staff and students from other Higher Education Institutions; colleagues from NHS Fife and NHS Tayside and those that have a connection or affiliation to the University. Read our membership guide for all categories of membership and any associated fees.
In advance of a visit in person, complete and submit an online application form.
Memberships are usually processed Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 (excluding the Christmas and New Year period). If additional information or a subscription payment is required, the library will contact you by email. Once processed, your membership will be active within 24 hours, and a library membership card will be ready for collection.
