Walking directions
- Walk straight past the main reception and shops and then turn left near 'The Café', the 'Take Away on level 7' is directly in front of you
- Enter the stairwell and lift area (through the double wooden doors) following the signs for East Block Ward 42
- Take the lift or stairs down to level 5. (You will immediately see signs on the door that 'Bagnall units are in use on this level')
- Coming into the corridor from the stairwell there is a kitchen area directly ahead and ‘Food @ Five' will be in front of you to the right
- Turn left and follow the corridor around, following the signs for the Arboretum Wood, East Block, Ward 42. Continue down the long corridor
- East Block and signs for the Arboretum Wood will be on the wall on your right. Do not turn in
- Continue past the entrance to Ward 42 to the next doorway on the left. (HIC Services and Improvement Academy Tayside are signposted at the entrance)
- Take the stairs or the lift up to level 2 (HIC Services)
- Ring the bell for entry
- As you enter TASC take the stairs or take the lift up to level 5
- Exit into the walkway
- Cross the walkway and follow the corridor straight on until you reach signs for the laundry and a fire exit is straight in front of you
- The entrance to the laundry area is on the right hand side – you are not permitted to enter this area
- Follow the corridor to the left and continue following the corridor along. HIC Services and the Improvement Academy will be on the right. If you pass the East Block entrance and signs for The Arboretum Wood on your left, you have gone a bit too far. HIC Services is in the same section of corridor as the East Block entrance but on your right hand side
- Turn left and follow the corridor again until you reach the entrance to HIC Services on your right hand side. There are signs on the wall for these just at the entrance
- Take the stairs or the lift up to level 2 of the building (HIC Services)
- Ring the bell for entry
If walking outside:
- Walk straight across the road that runs past the Mackenzie Building (Kirsty Semple Way). You will see that this road narrows just at the entrance to the Mackenzie Building car park, as it is meant to be for buses only
- Walk around the hospital building past the entrance to the Princess Alexandria Cancer Centre
- Continue around to the right of the Accident & Emergency entrance. (You will see the Maggie’s Centre to you right over the grass.)
- Continue walking along past the mobile theatre’s that are based at the back of the Hospital. (Currently there are temporary metal gratings down for vehicles to cross)
- Follow the roadway until you come to the next major entry, the East Block
- Then follow the directions from Clinic 8
(Pulmonary Function) at the East Block, which leads to Ward 42
- Walk through the department, following the signs for the Pulmonary Function Clinic
- Take the stairs (Stair 2) in the far right hand corner, or the lift, up to level 5
- If you take the stairs you will also walk through part of the Ward 42 area (there are also signs for ‘Way Out’)
- Take a right as you step out into the main level 5 corridor (there is a sign for ‘Way out’ pointing left)
- The entrance to HIC Services is just a few steps along the corridor to the right, on the left hand side
- There are signs at the entrance to the building
- Take the stairs or the lift up to level 2 (HIC Services)
- Ring the bell for entry
Entering the hospital through the entrance to the Tayside Children's Hospital (level 4)
- (This entrance is at the side of the Hospital, before the entrance to maternity.)
- Take a left when leaving the car park, cross the road (Kirsty Semple Way) which runs past the Mackenzie Building, walk a short way up the hill and take the first entrance on your right, signposted for the Tayside Children's Hospital
- Walk along past the car park and the mini shrub-covered roundabout, follow the path under the overhang, past the entrance to Maternal And Child Health Sciences on your right, and into the Hospital. (level 4)
- Take the lift (or the stairs) up to level 5
- If you take the stairs take a sharp right past the lifts and through the single grey door into the small corridor which leads to another door with 'Way out' above it
- If you take the lift go through the single grey door immediately to the left when you come out of the lift and follow the small corridor around to the door with 'Way out' above it
- You will come out into a long corridor – turn right and continue straight down the corridor (past the back of the operating theatres) following it around to the right where you will see a sign in front of you warning that Bagnall Tugs are in operation in the corridor
- When you see this sign take a left and follow the length of corridor past ‘Food @ Five' and begin following signs for East Block, Ward 42 or the Arboretum Wood. (This is a long journey)
- Follow the corridor with windows around to the right, then left and continue following the corridor around and down a very long hall
- East Block, Ward 42 and signs for the Arboretum Wood will be on your right. Do not turn in
- Continue past the East Block entrance to the next doorway on the left. (HIC Services and Improvement Academy Tayside)
- Take the stairs or the lift up to level 2 (HIC Services)
- Ring the bell for entry

- Follow the pavement until you reach an entrance with a bench outside, on your left
- Continue straight through the doors and follow the corridor around to the right until you come to a reception desk
- Go through the door immediately to the left and take the stairs or the lift up to level 5
- Go through the door immediately to the left and follow the corridor around
- Continue straight down the corridor following it around to the right and left again
- Follow this length of corridor past ‘Food @ Five’ and begin following signs for East Block, Ward 42 or the Arboretum Wood. (This is a long journey)
- Follow the corridor with windows around to the right, then left and continue following the corridor around and down a very long hall
- East Block, Ward 42 and brown signs for the Arboretum Wood will be on your right. Do not turn in
- Continue past the East Block entrance to the next doorway on the left. (HIC Services and Improvement Academy Tayside)
- Take the stairs or the lift up to level 2 (HIC Services)
- Ring the bell for entry
- Enter the Ninewells Hospital Site from the East Gate on Ninewells Avenue (which runs between Glamis Road and Perth Road), you will see this sign
- Take the first left onto George Pirie Way, then a right onto Patrick Blair Place (which is also signposted for the Improvement Academy)
- Continue to follow the road almost to the end, there are signposts leading to the Improvement Academy all the way along, the entrance is just past the third opening (this is for the Hospital Mail Room) on the left hand side with the car park barrier
- This is a small car park area and with a first come first serve basis and is managed by Saba. This is normally a pay and display parking area. The payment machine is located near the start of Patrick Blair Place.
- The entrance is round to the left of the building. Please ring the buzzer for entry
- Enter the Ninewells Hospital Site from the East Gate on Ninewells Avenue (which runs between Glamis Road and Perth Road), you will see this sign
- Take the first left onto George Pirie Way, then a right onto Patrick Blair Place (which is also signposted for the Improvement Academy)
- Continue to follow the road almost to the end, there are signposts leading to Farr all the way along, the entrance is just past the third opening (this is for the Hospital Mail Room) on the left hand side with the car park barrier
- This is a small car park area and with a first come first serve basis and is managed by Saba. This is normally a pay and display parking area. The payment machine is located near the start of Patrick Blair Place.
- The entrance is round to the left of the building. Please ring the buzzer for entry
Driving directions
Dundee train station is approximately 10 minutes from Ninewells Hospital by car. There is a taxi rank at the station exit for your convenience. If you arrive at the hospital main reception, follow the signs for Ward 42. Go past the entrance to Ward 42 and you will find HIC Services further up the corridor on your left hand side (see above for more information).
The best way to approach Dundee is the A90 via Perth. This is a journey of an hour and a half, travelling north across the Forth Bridge and continuing up towards Perth on the M90. At Perth, continue on the same dual carriageway (which becomes the A90) and follow the signs to Dundee (20 miles or so) until you reach the first roundabout with the Doubletree by Hilton on the left hand side and Ninewells Hospital will be signed to the right.
The best way to approach Dundee is the A90 via Perth. This is a journey of approx. two hours, travelling east along the M8 taking the M80/ A80 to Stirling. From Stirling take the M9/ A9 north to Perth. At Perth take the M90 (which becomes the A90) and follow the signs to Dundee (20 miles or so) until you reach the first roundabout with the Doubletree by Hilton on the left hand side and Ninewells Hospital will be signed to the right.
- There is also a shuttle bus service available on weekdays from 09:00 - 17:00 between car park 9, the multi storey car park and the Main Entrance to the Hospital
- If you come to Ninewells Hospital by car you should enter by the main gate on Ninewells Avenue. The route to the Main Entrance is clearly signposted. For drivers using satellite navigation systems the post code locator to use is DD2 1UB
- There is a charge for parking on site. The tariff is clearly displayed as you enter the car park. The Pay on Foot machines in the Long Term stay car parks give change for the tariff although they do not accept notes. The Pay & Display machines in Short Stay car parks do not give change. Visitors to the hospital should make for car parks 5 and 6 (7 for disabled parking). Follow the signs to the main hospital entrance and reception
