Are you a keen gym goer who wants to try a new way of training? Maybe you’re a Crossfitter who wants to improve their barbell skills in WODs? Or perhaps you’ve never stepped foot in a gym before but want to get fit and improve your strength?
Well, Dundee University Weightlifting Club is for you. We specialise in Olympic Weightlifting which involves two lifts – the snatch and the clean and jerk. If you’ve never seen the Olympics before, these involve getting as much weight as possible from the floor to overhead in the most efficient way possible. Learning these lifts are one the best ways to develop strength, power, athleticism, and mobility and have huge carryover to other sports and fitness goals. Statistically, Weightlifting is also a very safe sport with a low injury rate and not to mention is fun! Ideal if you want to mix up your current gym routine.
Sessions are led by our highly experienced coach and are suitable for everyone from total beginners to national level competitors. We’re extremely friendly and passionate about training which make us a great place to meet likeminded people.
On top of an active social calendar, we regularly have competitions to allow members to test their strength and in recent years have had considerable success at regional and national level competitions.
