Teaching
We offer an induction programme in legal research skills at the start of each semester.
This ensures that you understand the UK and European legal systems. It also ensures that you can find and use the resources that you will need.
You will also learn what is required of you in a study environment where you may be learning more independently than previously.
Most of your teaching will be in student-led seminars. You will read extensively in advance for these.
A discussion will then be led by the lecturer.
Sometimes there will be a lecture component, such as at the start of the class to structure the discussion.
Guest lecturers may also visit, either within modules or as a separate event.
We offer a wide variety of external activities including a residential study trip for all students.
Assessment
You will be assessed through:
- oral or written exams
- essays
- reports or other written coursework
There will be a formative ‘practice’ assessment early in the semester. This is intended to gauge your progress and identify ways to improve.
You will also devise, research, and write a dissertation in the summer. This will consider a question relevant to the subjects you are studying. This will let you demonstrate your research skills. There will be classes to help you prepare for this.
