Learn the key concepts in Intellectual Property Law from a UK perspective. It also touches on European and international influences. You will gain a critical appreciation of the key social and economic issues and influences associated with the topic.

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of copyrights, trademarks, patents, designs, and trade secrets. Each subject will delve into various influential cases that have shaped the rules within the field. Through analysing these cases, you will learn lawyer skills in common law.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • identify and summarise the rules established or interpreted by judges. You will learn how to apply the learned rules to analyse new scenarios or cases
  • evaluate and critique existing rules using persuasive arguments and supporting evidence
  • engage with the latest empirical and interdisciplinary research in fields such as psychology, economics, and sociology

By the end of the module you will be able to:

  • identify material from a wide variety of legal sources. You will be able to extract from it relevant information to successfully engage with the seminars and assessment
  • explore the interaction between the main legal regimes used to protect intellectual property
  • identify broad structures within detailed legal provisions through the study of specific legal regimes with an awareness of general patterns and concentration on key structural features
