Visiting student electives in Medicine

We can offer electives for students who want to visit from another university

We can offer final year medical students a maximum of an eight week period. There is a fee of £200 which is payable on return of an application form which will be sent to you if you are accepted to carry out a clinical elective placement.

Clinical attachments may be available in the following departments / specialities:

  • Anaesthetics
  • Cardiology
  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Haematology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Medicine for the Elderly
  • Neurosciences (Neurology or Neurosurgery)
  • Oncology
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Paediatrics
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Radiology
  • Renal Medicine
  • Rheumatology
  • Surgery - General
  • Urology

All international students will need to apply for a full Student visa in order to undertake an elective placement at Dundee.

Accommodation in the Nurses Residences of the hospital is available on request.

There is no formal teaching programme. You'll will join in all the clinical activities and participate in teaching rounds, case conferences, etc that are held regularly in the various units and specialities.
