Diabetes, Endocrinology and Reproductive Biology
We are a translational research division with activities ranging from discovery science to precision medicine and patient-oriented prevention.
Endocrinology is the study of hormones and hormonal regulation is the thread running through the wide scope of research interests in our division. We have a leading international reputation, particularly for our research on diabetes and reproductive biology. The comprehensive nature of this research, encompassing clinical and non-clinical, fundamental and applied, is critical to the research impact we achieve.
Our research focusses include contraception, drug repurposing, fertility, insulin resistance, islet regeneration, lifestyle interventions, metabolic reprogramming, pharmacogenomics and trials. In partnership with researchers across the University of Dundee, as well as industrial partners, our main mission is threefold. Firstly, to identify new drugs and other treatment strategies; secondly, to understand mechanisms through which different drugs or non-drug treatments work and finally, to identify factors that affect how individual patients respond or become resistant to their treatment.
Our research is funded by the Medical Research Council, charities such as Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, government organisations, like the Chief Scientist’s Office, global funders such as the Gates Foundation, as well as from commercial partnerships.
Our division is a community, and we are strongly committed to the education and development of the next generation of research leaders.
