Teaching

We are reviewing the structure of this course for 2026/27 entry

Teaching will take place in the Dental School and Hospital which is on campus, at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and in local and regional dental clinics.

Teaching methods include:

practical laboratory sessions
workshops
clinical skills classes

Our course is longer than normal University courses as the General Dental Council require a total of 102 weeks to be completed.

This is the first module of your course, designed to support your transition into higher education and the clinical environment.

You will develop technical, clinical, and communication skills in simulated settings, alongside the scientific knowledge needed to prepare you for direct patient care.

Clinical Dental Therapy 1: Foundation for Dental Practice full module details

In this module, you will make the transition from simulated environments to direct patient care.

Building on Module 1, you will take medical and dental histories, carry out oral examinations, deliver preventative advice, and provide periodontal care, supported by deepening knowledge of body systems, oral biology, and evidence-based practice.
