Undergraduate physics courses
Physicists do more than study the universe: they use ideas, measurements, and models to develop technologies society relies on. At Dundee, our undergraduate Physics courses let you work as a physicist from day one, designing experiments, writing code, analysing data, and solving real scientific problems.
You will explore quantum systems, advanced materials, renewable energy, space science, and future technologies. Through laboratory work, research-led projects, presentations, and a student-led public science fair, you will build practical, digital, teamwork, and communication skills for careers in research, technology, engineering, energy, data, finance, and education.

Undergraduate mathematics and physics courses
Mathematics is the language of modern physics and astrophysics, helping us build models, make predictions, and understand systems from quantum particles to galaxies. At Dundee, our joint undergraduate courses combine rigorous mathematics with physics, computation, experiments, and astrophysical data, showing how abstract ideas solve real scientific problems.
You will develop mathematical modelling, coding, data-analysis, and problem-solving skills through tutorials, laboratories, computational work, and research-led projects. You will graduate with the mathematical, computational, and analytical skills valued across data science, technology, finance, engineering, research, and education.

Start broad, specialise later
All our physics-related degrees share a common first two years, giving you time to explore physics, mathematics, programming, laboratory work, and astrophysics before finalising your specialism.
You can enter on any of our Physics, Physics with Astrophysics, Physics with Renewable Energy Science, Mathematics and Astrophysics, or Mathematics and Physics degrees, and either continue on that pathway to graduation or transfer between pathways up to the end of second year as your interests, strengths, and career ambitions develop. This means you can start with the subject that interests you most, while keeping options open.
