English / Creative Writing / Film Studies courses

Learn from experts in medieval to contemporary literature, film, and theatre. Benefit from partnerships with organisations like Dundee Rep Theatre and engage in Dundee's literary scene

English, Creative Writing, and Film Studies at Dundee spans literary works from the 16th century to today, with a multimedia focus that covers comics, film, screenwriting, and narratives in video games. You can study Victorian, Romantic, Modernist and Contemporary literature alongside Scottish, African, American and Post-Colonial writing, and whichever course you choose, you can develop your own voice as a writer.

Dundee is an international leader in Comics Studies, with a dedicated publishing imprint, UniVerse, that publishes student and research-led comics work. You can publish critical writing through DURA (the Dundee University Review of the Arts) and gain hands-on publishing experience through the student-run magazine The Magdalen. Students have also been writers-in-residence at Arbroath Abbey, led workshops at V&A Dundee, and made creative work at the University's Cooper Gallery.

Outside the classroom, you can attend poetry readings, open mic nights, film and creative writing clubs, and the annual Being Human festival.
