We teach anatomy, forensic anthropology, and medical art at the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification.
We were the first UK university to adopt Thiel embalming and are now the UK's leading Thiel facility, so you can learn anatomy by dissecting cadavers that stay lifelike. You will also be able to work with our skeletal collections, including the Scheuer Collection of juvenile remains, and learn from staff who work live forensic cases with Police Scotland.
Undergraduate courses
At undergraduate level you can study anatomical science or forensic anthropology.
Anatomical science is the study of the structure of the human body, from early development to the adult form, at both whole-organ and tissue level.
Forensic anthropology applies that anatomy, alongside skeletal osteology, to identifying the dead: establishing who someone was, investigating suspicious deaths, and identifying victims of mass disasters.
Both are dissection-based, and you will handle real skeletal material.
