This module considers legal, theoretical, and practical issues associated with sustainability. It looks into ESG standards for businesses and investment activities.

In this module, you will first cover key international relations theories. Secondly, you will look at case studies relating to international relations and energy disputes.

This will cover:

• Sino-Japanese political and energy disputes
• the Iran Nuclear Crisis
• the EU energy security policy
• the US energy policy
• Geopolitics and Central Asia

You will learn about the principles of corporate governance. You will cover topics such as:

• issues
• good practices of companies’ governance mechanisms
• intracompany operations
• companies’ engagements with the wider community

This module will be relevant if you want to practice company law and to provide professional advice on corporate governance.

The module covers sources of international investment law. It covers the host State's and foreign investors' main legal obligations. It also looks at compensation and settlement of disputes.

It also discusses the interaction between promoting investments and protecting societal values. These include human rights, the environment, sustainable development, and just transition.

Human rights laws describe fundamental rights to which all human beings are entitled. It also describes the corresponding duties of states and other actors.

This module examines the law, theory and institutions for the protection of human rights. It also looks at their implementation and effectiveness in practice.

Learn about the World Trade Organisation (WTO) system's historical, political, and legal framework. You will learn about topics such as:

• the WTO dispute-resolution mechanism
• rules on non-discrimination
• rules on market access
• exceptions with an emphasis on international security and regional agreements
• rules on unfair trade
• harmonization of national regulation

The module focuses on international arbitration and judicial adjudication. It is organised into two main blocks.

The first provides an advanced introduction to courts and tribunals. The second critically investigates the main aspects and issues in terms of their procedure and work.

This module will introduce you to the political science of human rights.

You will be encouraged to engage with the concepts, theories, and methods that have been used to study human rights.

You will also undertake monitoring for a human rights NGO.

The module combines theory and practice to introduce you to theoretical debates and controversies in human rights advocacy and real-world experience of running an advocacy campaign.

The aim of the module is to help you to learn by reading, reflecting, and doing.
