This course is also available as Civil Engineering with Future Construction Technologies MSc

Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that focuses on the design, construction and maintenance of the infrastructure that makes up our modern society. This consists of a wide range of projects such as roads, bridges, buildings and water supply systems. Future construction technologies are innovative methods and tools that rethink how civil engineers design, build, and maintain these structures and systems.

By integrating these technologies, the course places a strong emphasis on staying ahead of the curve of the industry. You will have the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge to bring change to the construction industry. This is done as the course brings together ideas of sustainability and innovation. It will delve into topics such as:

  • digital tills in analysis and design
  • robotics
  • artificial intelligence
  • sustainable construction practices

The course also offers the option to include a work placement element. This can enhance your practical experience and exposure to the industry.

In Semester 1 you will work on modules specific to future construction technologies. In Semester 2, you will focus on the core Civil Engineering modules. You will also have the opportunity to take optional modules. Finally, you will also complete an individual research project. This will be on the topic of an area of technology development in Civil Engineering.

During this course, you will have access to our dedicated facilities. These include facilities such as:

  • dedicated advanced computing laboratories for machine learning and computer vision
  • multi-scale physical modelling facilities for structural, geotechnical and hydraulic simulation
