If you ever find yourself thinking about big questions beyond everyday experience - questions that may never have a single, final answer - then you would probably enjoy studying Philosophy.
Our courses are designed to explore the role of philosophy in the twenty-first century. Part of the School of Humanities, we are one of the main centres in the UK for the study of European Philosophy, specialising in Continental Philosophy at all levels of teaching and research.
We also provide expert supervision in the Philosophy of Art and Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Nature, Science, Technology. When it comes to Aesthetics, we have a particular interest in interdisciplinary work linking Philosophy with the visual arts, performance, and literature.
When it comes to the Philosophy of Nature, Science, Technology, we have a particular interest in interdisciplinary work linking philosophy with debates concerning AI and the digital, as well debates concerning the climate crisis.
Finally, we have an interest in Political Philosophy, especially when this intersects with questions of emancipation, technology, or the climate crisis.
