This module delivers core knowledge about how to design and interpret studies of behaviour and attitudes in Psychology.

Topics covered in this module include:

  • psychological research methodologies
  • qualitative data analysis
  • quantitative statistical methods
  • communication of psychological findings

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the core research methodologies used for investigating different psychological questions
  • develop the practical skills to undertake independent psychological research
  • learn to use qualitative research techniques for analysing interviews and focus group data
  • gain experience of using statistical software to analyse experimental datasets
  • learn how to evaluate and criticise psychological research
  • improve your ability to integrate the components of the research process into a written report

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • take decisions about the design and analysis of research studies
  • interpret, discuss, and write up research findings
  • critically evaluate the methods and findings of published psychological research

  • weekly multiple-choice quizzes (10%) 
  • unseen exam (50%)
