This module will provide you with the opportunity to gain important experience in planning, organising, and carrying out a programme of practical project work. The project will be divided into a group project (10 weeks) where you are developing a business idea and setting up a fictive commercial business. Additionally, you’ll carry out a core 12-week individual project within an industrial placement, which will enable you to gain important work experience. We’ll train and support you in the competitive application process to secure your placement.

Specific outcomes:

  • You’ll develop skills in research, problem solving and critical thinking by investigative methods and design in an area of mechanical engineering.
  • You’ll gain a high level of competence and individual responsibility and initiative in a particular mechanical engineering topic.
  • You’ll understand the industrial requirements in commercialising a product (creating a fictive spinout company).
  • You’ll develop and improve skills in project planning, management, and implementation,

You’ll develop skills in team working (group project) and communication with peers and experts (industrial placement).
