Appointing Committees

The procedures below outline the composition of each Appointing Committee panel, summarising each panel member’s individual role.  The procedures also outline the responsibilities of the School and Human Resources in the process.

Throughout the appointing procedure, and not only at interview, questions may be asked of, or about, a candidate. For the guidance of members of staff there is an excerpt from the Equal Opportunities policy which was approved by the University Court on 24th June 1991. To support the University’s initiative around Athena Swan, the Committee should aim for a gender balance and encourage representation from various racial groups and people with disabilities wherever possible.  Where this is not possible due to the constraints of those who must be on the Appointing Committee, the outwith School representative should be considered in order to achieve the best possible balance.

It is an expectation that all panel members have completed their Marshalls Equality and Diversity training modules.  In particular, it is mandatory that the Convener of the Committee must have completed these.
