Getting started with public engagement

Guidance on where to start with public engagement.

Training

When interacting with the public, you are not only representing your field of research, but also the University of Dundee. Interacting with the public can be unpredictable as you could be engaging with anyone from 9 months to 90 and you may not know what to expect. If you haven't done any public engagement activities before there are courses might be interested in the training section. If you are interested in training for a specific type of activity that isn't available, get in touch with the team and we may be able to offer or find a training course.

Volunteer

There are already lots of public engagement recurring series of events and festivals going on all through the year. The best way to get started is to volunteer to get involved with an already established event.

Be creative

You know your own research better than anyone else. Who better to promote it and tell everyone just why it excites you to work in this area? The ways you use to share your research to the public are limited only by your imagination. If you have a good idea but don't know how to get it off the ground, send us an email and we'll be happy to support you.
