What skills will I gain while I study?
Studying with CEPMLP will help you to develop a broad range of skills that are valued by employers. These include:
- Research
- Analysis
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Commercial Awareness
Being able to demonstrate these effectively is a key skill for making successful applications and you can learn about the STAR technique here. This can be used both for application forms and in interview and helps you to structure your evidence effectively.
Work Experience
Alongside your studies at Dundee, you may also wish to enhance your CV through gaining work experience. This can take many forms, including:
Internships
The University often works in partnership with external providers to help students source international internships as part of your degree programme, but you may also wish to explore applying for an internship independently. The Careers Service will help you to write an effective CV and discuss methods of sourcing internships both in the UK and worldwide.
Part-time work
Working part-time while you study is a great way to not only help you cover the expenses of day-to-day life, but also to develop transferable skills. The University JobShop is a great place to source opportunities, but you can also look more widely using local job searching tools such as Indeed, LinkedIn and by approaching local employers speculatively.
Volunteering
Volunteering in the local community can be a great way to make new friends, give back to society and develop new skills. You might find that volunteering and gaining experience is a great way to demonstrate your experience to employers for graduate level roles.
Note: If you are an international student, it is essential that you meet any specific visa regulations before working in the UK – this includes unpaid work. If you are in any doubt, it is wise to meet with our International Advice Team who will be able to help you.
