University recovery plan - Current students
Details of our University recovery plan and what it means for current students
The University is working with the Scottish Government and Scottish Funding Council to address a significant financial deficit and put the University on a path to a more sustainable future.
First Minister John Swinney
We are committed to continuing to provide an excellent student experience and first-class teaching at Dundee. This is a great place to live, work, and study for your degree, as shown by us named the Scottish University of the Year 2025 (Daily Mail University Guide).
We are actively recruiting new students to start in September 2025 and January 2026, with a full prospectus and have been hosting open days and visit days.
The current situation is challenging, but we are working to ensure the strongest possible future for the University and all in our community. There will be changes to the size and shape of the University as move on, but throughout all of that we will be prioritising the quality of the student experience.
Teaching, learning and academic supervision
Upholding the quality of a University of Dundee degree
The consistent commitment of the University of Dundee will be to deliver world-class education, in the UK's first city of design, and where quality is never compromised.
Changes to courses and modules
We are proposing to remove a limited number of modules that have proved unpopular with students which will mean a reduction in some options, but this is being done to ensure the long-term sustainability of our offer. We will have more information on this when we have completed a thorough review of our module provision, which is already underway.
It is not unusual for us to review module provision for any academic year.
Where there are impacts of changes in our activities, we will still ensure that appropriate arrangements and mitigations are put in place to support you.
Continuing quality of PGR (postgraduate researcher) support
If your supervisor leaves the University (which may happen for a variety of reasons, e.g. maternity leave, personal circumstances, or as an outcome of the VS scheme), you will always be assigned a new supervisor who can support your studies and personal supervision.
Student support
Pastoral care
Student pathways are being rationalised to match staffing levels, and to ensure no detriment to the high levels of quality, contact, and support we are renowned for.
Library services
Library Services continue to provide a wide range of resources to support the learning, teaching, and research activities of the University of Dundee.
