The University of Dundee will open its doors to the public and take them on a journey from ancient medicines to the future of justice for Discovery Days 2024

From Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 January, the Dalhousie Building on the University’s city campus will host the captivating showcase of cutting-edge research and inspirational teaching.

Discovery Days presents a series of engaging 15-minute talks from the University’s newly appointed Professors, award-winning staff and students, covering a wide variety of topics, from the secrets behind Alzheimer’s research all the way to the origins of language.

The 2024 Discovery Days will go beyond conventional lectures, offering an exploration of crucial topics—from health and wellbeing to sustainability and the forefront of scientific research and artistic expression. Each presentation provides a glimpse into the work done at Dundee, contributing to transformative changes on a local and global scale.

Several of the sessions will be chaired by Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, who said, "Discovery Days 2024 stands as a testament to the excellence of our academic community at the University.

“As we unveil the latest insights from our newest Professors, esteemed teachers and innovative students, these days encapsulate the depth of knowledge and dedication at the University.

“We take pride in the transformative impact our institution has on shaping the intellectual landscape, both locally and globally. The resounding success of Discovery Days over the years reflects the unwavering commitment to excellence that defines the University of Dundee.”

  • Professor Sudharshan Reddy Paramati - "How do we ensure energy security and meet net zero targets?"

Members of the public are invited to attend as many sessions as they wish and will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions about their work.

Discovery Days 2024 will also provide the public with the opportunity to witness the University Court at work. The institution’s governing body will host a public session on Wednesday 10 January, allowing interested parties to hear from and pose questions to leading figures from the University.
