This course prepares you with the knowledge and skills required to join a growing international workforce within world-leading companies in the science and healthcare communication industries.

Science communication skills can be used to help communicate science content and research to a wide range of audiences, including public audiences, clients, and policy makers. Health communication, which includes medical writing, involves applied communication of medicinal and other health-related content, and is often associated with specialist work with, or for, pharmaceutical companies.

You will gain advanced knowledge of current key areas and topics such as theories of science communication, content design and persuasive communication, audience segmentation and profiling, critical analysis and appraisal of scientific papers and clinical trial results, and the evaluation of effective engagement.

Unlike many similar degree courses you will also learn about specialist scientific subjects including ethical issues in science and healthcare, drug discovery, clinical trials, epidemiology, and the language and challenges in biomedical sciences, in translational medicine, or in a variety of relevant diseases. You will also gain experience in visual and written communication, graphic design, communications across social media platforms, and storytelling and narrative design.

The course was conceived and designed with AMICULUM

They are a leading global health communications consultancy. They have teams in the UK, USA, Asia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.

You will gain important hands-on experience and enhanced employability. To help with this we have consulted with other industry partners and organisations who employ people with expertise in this field.

Your final project will either be in an academic setting or project placement within a relevant company. This will further enhance your career prospects.

We welcome participants from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines, including the sciences (life sciences, maths, physical sciences), healthcare (medicine, dentistry, nursing and allied professions), and communications media (arts, graphic design, marketing, communications). However, please note, this is not a course in communication science and does not specialise in marketing, advertising, or corporate communication.
