You will develop a technical ability for research which can be used as a stepping-stone to embark on a PhD programme, or for a career in academic or industrial research.
The many transferrable skills you will gain, along with a qualification in a STEM-based subject, are desirable qualities for many employers.

I have loved being able to have a dabble in lots of new techniques that I would otherwise never have got to experience, and it’s a great introduction to research without all the stress of a PhD.
