Teaching and assessment for Human Anatomy MSc

Teaching

You will be taught using various methods including:

lectures
whole body dissection (in small groups of 3-4 people)
practical labs
group work
demonstrations
tutorials

You will carry out an original research project, presenting your work both at a seminar and as a written dissertation, which will be carried out under the supervision of one of our expert anatomy staff.

Assessment

We have a variety of formative assessments, to give you feedback and prepare you for your end of module exams, and summative assessments, to test your knowledge, skills and level of critical analysis. Most modules have both coursework and exam elements.

Embryology and development anatomy explores the development of humans from fertilisation onwards.

You will learn about the events leading to the development of different body systems. You will also learn about how differences between individuals are established.

Embryology and Developmental Anatomy full module details

Module code: CA51025 Credits: 20 Semester: Semester 1

Anatomy is the scientific study of the structures that form the human body. This module involves dissection of flexible Thiel-embalmed cadavers. These give a realistic view of the 3-D anatomy of the human body.

This module focuses on the structures in human thorax, abdomen and pelvis.

This module focuses on the structures in human head and neck.

Human Gross Anatomy of the Head and Neck full module details

Module code: CA52002 Credits: 20 Semester: Semester 2

Neuroanatomy describes the structure and organization of the human nervous system.

You will explore molecular mechanisms underlying brain development from a neurodevelopment perspective and the structure and organisation of the central and peripheral nervous systems.

You will also investigate the pathophysiology of common disorders of the nervous system.

This module focuses on the structures in the human upper and lower limbs and back.

Human Gross Anatomy of the Limbs full module details

Module code: CA53001 Credits: 60 Semester: Runs during the summer

Most of the MSc modules are based on practical work and lectures. The dissertation module is different.

You will work with a supervisor to plan and conduct an independent research project in an area of interest to you. You will write a thesis and present your findings.
