The treatment of pulpal and periapical disease makes up a considerable proportion of clinical cases encountered in general dental practice worldwide.

It is recognised that endodontics is a challenging field. There is also limited practical experience and gaps in knowledge during undergraduate training.

This course will help equip you with the skills. You will have the opportunity to learn to treat more complex cases competently.

The topics in this course will cover the curriculum for specialist training in endodontics.

The course includes a significant clinical component. This will allow you to learn the skills required to practice as a special on completion of the Royal Colleges' examination.

In Year 1 the course covers broad-based training. This is where you'll learn about all aspects of restorative dentistry and clinical dental science. When you move into Years 2 and 3, you'll learn more about the subject of endodontics in-depth. This takes an evidence-based approach.

In Years 2 and 3 you'll study a range of topics including:

  • the foundations of endodontics
  • clinical management of complex endodontic cases
  • radiology and the use of Cone-bean CT in endodontics
  • management of dental trauma
  • surgical endodontics
  • research skills and dissertation

You will be taught in a clinical environment. You will be provided with the materials and equipment required to undertake complex procedures. This will allow you to provide modern, high-quality endodontic treatment. You will be supervised by specialist clinicians and supported by dental nurses.
