Teaching and assessment for Comics & Graphic Novels MDes
Teaching
A variety of teaching methods are used, including:
- small groups
- one-to-one teaching
- supervised study
- seminars and tutorials
- presentations
- invited speakers
- discussion groups
- lectures
- workshops
- practical classes and demonstrations
There are a mix of core and optional modules.
You will develop your work through core modules on comics production, practical workshops on comics creation and a final major project, which is a creative piece of work of 22 pages or more. You will design, write, illustrate, and critically reflect on this piece of work, and exhibit it at the end of year Masters Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design.
Assessment
The assessment methods used in this course include :
- weekly journals
- presentations
- research essays
- dissertations
- projects
Some of the optional modules include assessment of creative work and reflective essays.
Your final creative project will be supervised on a one-to-one basis and this gives you the opportunity to work on an area of comics study or creation of your own choosing (subject to approval by the tutor).
