Teaching and assessment for Applied Neuroscience MSc

In this module, you'll get an overview of some of the main topics in contemporary neuroscience. This will start with the physiology of neurons and synapses. You'll then learn about systems-level topics such as sensation and movement.

You'll also explore some of the key research techniques used in neuroscience.

Gain a Master’s-level experience of a substantive piece of research in the field of neuroscience. This will cover the research's design, execution, and communication.

You will learn about the neurobiological mechanisms that mediate memory. These include:

• the synaptic changes that are thought to underlie learning
• the systems-level processes that lead to the consolidation of memories
• the pathological changes that lead to a deterioration of memory in conditions such as Alzheimer’s Disease

This module will introduce you to some of the ways in which neuroscience knowledge and research can be used to improve human health and wellbeing, focussing on the relief of pain, and therapeutic strategies to treat neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.

This module will provide you with an introduction to foundational topics surrounding adult mental health. You will develop basic knowledge and critical thinking skills to evaluate theories and debates in the field of adult mental health.

This module explores adverse experiences in childhood and the subsequent developmental and mental health outcomes in children, young people, and adults.

It will also cover suitable interventions to improve outcomes for individuals with ACEs.
