Biography
Professor Marios Stavridis is Faculty Associate Vice-Principal for Education and Student Experience in the Faculty of Life Sciences, where he provides strategic leadership for education, student outcomes, and the overall student experience across the Faculty.
He previously served as Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience, leading major curriculum reform, assessment strategy development, and quality enhancement initiatives. This has included large-scale programme redesign, development of more coherent and sustainable curricula, and leadership of institutional policy change, including a University-wide review of assessment in response to emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence.
In his current role, he works closely with the Vice-Principal Education and Student Experience and Faculty leadership to align Faculty education strategy with University priorities, ensuring provision that is academically rigorous, student-centred, and operationally sustainable. His approach is evidence-led and collaborative, with a strong focus on continuous enhancement, inclusive practice, and supporting colleagues to deliver excellent teaching.
Research
Marios' research has focused on the signalling control of neural differentiation in mouse embryonic stem cells. This work on complex signalling systems informs his approach to education, where he focusses on how curriculum, assessment and student support interact to shape outcomes and student experience.
Teaching
Marios is a recognised and award-winning educator, with a sustained track record of student-led recognition, including the University’s Student Choice Award. His educational leadership is underpinned by expertise in assessment design, curriculum development, and the use of data to improve student outcomes.
