This module examines the types of authority (regulatory regime) dealing with land use planning and development management. Sustainable development is used as a theme throughout.

Planning law involves regulations and rules governing land use and development. It guides urban and rural planning, zoning, construction permits, and environmental considerations. Planning law aims to ensure orderly and sustainable development. It does this while considering social, economic, and ecological factors in community growth. In doing so it should balance both public interests and private property rights.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:
