Independent research is a hallmark of postgraduate study, and this module is your opportunity to pursue a question in your discipline in depth. You will define a clear research question, develop a methodology described in sufficient detail to be replicated, and carry out a thorough and up-to-date literature search using Medline and other appropriate databases.

Good time management and independent working are central to this module. You will need to integrate and apply the skills and knowledge you have built up across your taught programme, and demonstrate careful appraisal of the scientific literature. If your project requires ethical or NHS approval, you will need to plan for this in advance.

Each student works closely with an allocated academic supervisor throughout the project. Formative feedback is given through regular contact, and students provide progress reports to ensure steady development toward the final submission.
