It emphasises a systematic approach and synthetic thinking in Civil Engineering. This applies to project planning, design, and execution.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:
analyse a design brief
carry out a feasibility study and risk assessment, and produce a range of design options and possible solutions
use digital tools in the conceptual design of engineering systems
use Standards to specify materials and inform design development
apply key laws, like the Construction Design and Management Regulations, to the design process. These include rules on disability discrimination and fire safety.
work independently and in small groups within the studio environment
identify and analyse problems within construction and establish solutions
communicate and present ideas and design thinking to peers and others
