This module will further extend your understanding of the mechanics of soil.

You will learn about more advanced soil behaviour and the design of common geotechnical engineering systems.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about different types of geotechnical structures and the procedures for their design
  • gain an understanding of the purpose and nature of ground investigation
  • appreciate the importance of geotechnical structures monitoring
  • assess the importance of health and safety specific to geotechnical projects
  • understand the effect of soil properties on geotechnical structure design

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • select the appropriate analysis for a geotechnical problem, carry out the calculation, and revise a design
  • interpret laboratory testing, ground investigation, and monitoring data
  • apply the principles learnt to the design of a geotechnical structure
  • apply the appropriate analytical tools to a geotechnical problem
