Throughout the career of a civil engineer, there is a requirement to continually develop new understanding and skills as well as keep up with new developments in the industry. This is referred to as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

The aim of this module is to encourage a culture of CPD amongst our students. The module will follow the framework expected of professionally qualified engineers, encouraging you to self-assess your needs and undertake further learning. It will also explore ways of reflecting on this learning and how it may be applied and built upon.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • develop an understanding of the importance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Development Action Plans (DAPs)
  • develop skills to maintain a continuing professional development record
  • learn about many of the major topical issues affecting the civil engineering profession
  • improve your understanding of subjects in areas of personal weakness
  • become registered with the Institution of Civil Engineers

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • effectively reflect on and record CPD activities
  • produce a DAP

This module does not have a final examination.
