Winter vacation information for applicants

The University closes over the Christmas and New Year period. Find out when we reopen, and how to avoid delays to your application.

Winter break – Christmas and New Year

Tuesday 23 December 2025 16:00 GMT to Monday 5 January 2026 09:00 GMT

Emails, social media messages, and telephone calls will not be answered and applications will not be processed during this period.

Our chatbot “Baxter” may be able to help you while our staff are absent. 

New UK students starting in January 2026

If you have not received an email asking you to upload a photo for your student ID by Tuesday 23 December, we will email you after we re-open on Monday 5 January. Once requested, please upload a copy of your photo ID as soon as possible. Details about how to matriculate online will be sent after Monday 5 January 2026.

New international students starting in January 2026

The last date that we will issue a CAS for January entry is Monday 21 December 2025.

We will not be able to respond to any email enquiries relating to your visa or your application until we reopen on Monday 5 January 2026. 

If you arrive in Dundee during the closure period, please do not come to the campus, as everything is closed. We cannot check your documents or matriculate you until 12 January. Please do not worry about that. If you have arrived in the country prior to 12 January, you must come for checks and to matriculate as soon as possible in week beginning 12 January. Information about where to go for document checks and to collect your ID card can be found on our welcome pages.

If you are arriving in the UK over the Christmas and New Year period, please be aware that public transport across the UK, including taxis, will be limited or non-existent on 25, and 26 December, and 1 January. In Scotland, public transport will also be limited on 2 January. Services may end earlier than normal on 24 and 31 December. 

Please ensure that if you are arriving over the closure period, you have planned your travel and accommodation in advance. 

Student visa enquiries

All new students arriving in January 2026

Online matriculation has opened in eVision on an individual basis. Once you are ready to matriculate, you will receive an email with instructions to your university email account. If you have not yet received an email saying you are ready to matriculate, this will be sent when you are ready, so please continue to check your university email account for instructions once we re-open on Monday 5 January 2026.

If you don’t already have one, you will also be sent details of your new university email account.

Moving into University accommodation January 2026

If you are moving into University provided accommodation, you can move in from the date shown on your contract. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the residences team by email to [email protected]. Please be aware that the residences team will not be available during the closure period.

If you have an interview in early 2026

If you have any queries about your applicant interview, please send them to [email protected] and the team will respond from Monday 5 January. Please do not worry if your interview is soon, we will make sure we reply to you in time.

If you have been invited to book an interview, you can still do this via My Applications on eVision. If there are no available dates, please email [email protected].
