Free training and support to help UoD researchers explore the possibility of commercialising their research.
The University’s Research & Innovation Services (RIS) and the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE) are combining to deliver a programme of free training and support to help University of Dundee researchers explore whether a spin out company could be a good way to exploit their work.
What is it?
A course of face to face training on how to design, test, and grow a successful spin out company
Who is it for?
University of Dundee research staff
5 sessions on Thursday afternoons between 2nd March – 30th March, typically 2 – 4pm. The final session and showcase event will take place on Thursday 27th April.
Centre for Entrepreneurship, 75 Old Hawkhill, University of Dundee
Do I need a well-formed idea for a spin out company?
No, you just need to be working in a research area that has or will have outputs that could be exploited in a new company.
At the end of the course, everyone will have a well-formed analysis of their idea and ongoing help from RIS and CfE to take it forward. Cash awards may be available to fund expert support and services.
- Is my ideal real? Does it have a customer?
- Is my idea viable? Does it work financially?
- Is my idea feasible? What steps are needed to develop the technology?
- How do I protect my idea?
- How will I make money from it?
- How do I get support to make it happen?
These and other questions will be answered by experts from the University and specialist partners. In between the weekly sessions, you will have access to a dedicated mentor to answer questions and help develop your idea.
We will only ask you to provide your details, a bit about your area of research, and the progress you’ve made towards IP protection and/ or commercialisation so far.
