The University of Dundee celebrated LGBT+ History Month in February 2023.

We recognise that there are significant challenges facing the LGBT+ community in academia, and we want to drive that change. With talks and lectures looking at history, science, medicine and more, we want to showcase the breadth of talent amongst our family. LGBT+ History Month is just one chance for us to hear and learn from LGBT+ stories.

We have a very active student society and a busy staff and postgraduate network. If you want to find out more, connect with us on Twitter or Facebook and check back here as we announce our plans for 2024.

Here's a flavour of the events planned by the University's LGBT+ Staff Network.

Queer Zines and Comics Workshop

We had an informal evening looking at a variety of queer comics and zines. Work from the University of Dundee Museum Collections, the artists' book collection and the DJCAD Zine Library, were on display as well as work donated by past and present students, especially for this event.

We explored the history of how such publications came to be associated with queer politics and activism from the 1970s onwards, and how artists and researchers today are using zines and comics as a method to explore themes of gender and sexuality.

After hearing from the makers and having a chance to explore the collection, we moved on to have a go at a making our own zines or mini comics inspired by what you have seen.

School of Health Sciences staff coffee morning

School of Health Sciences held a coffee and chat event.

Transitions Community Compass series

Professor Jonathan Glazzard, Edgehill University, explored his own educational, professional and life transitions using an LGBTQ+ lens using an autobiographical approach.

Due to unavoidable circumstances, we had to cancel this session. It will be rescheduled and we will be in touch with a date.
