On our BSc (Hons) Business Management Graduate Apprenticeship course, we hope that our Graduate Apprentices will not only develop their own knowledge and understanding but also help grow their business as well.

They will do this by developing their understanding of:

  • Business functions, processes, markets, models and strategy.
  • Effective project management.
  • Financial model analysis.
  • How technology can enhance business.
  • Communicating using a range of media.
  • Leadership styles and organisational culture.
  • Managing relationships, emotional intelligence and core values.
  • Effective planning and personal development.
  • Effective decision making and problem solving.

University-based learning

Graduate Apprentices will spend one day per week on campus at the University.

This is a Monday in first year, Tuesday in second year, Wednesday in third year, and Thursday in fourth year.

There is a three week break at Christmas, a two week break at Easter, and at least a six week break in the Summer.

We focus on continuous assessment over end of year exams. This can include coursework, journals, presentations, group work, and class tests, to name a few.

Work-based learning

Work-based learning plays a pivotal role in the delivery of the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme, allowing the apprentice to complete an honours degree one day per week, and therefore the apprentice’s role must be relevant to the course they are undertaking.

This not only allows the apprentice to transfer the knowledge they are learning back into their role, but it also provides an opportunity to structure any coursework they are asked to complete around their business.

This helps the apprentice to quickly relate their academic learning to real world situations and increases their employer’s return on investment.

Eligibility

Our programme has been designed to ensure that it is accessible to as wide a range of applicants as possible.

This not only allows as many businesses as possible to take advantage of the opportunity, but also ensures our apprentices are studying alongside people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Our Graduate Apprenticeships are suitable for:

  • Both current and new employees, who are at least 16 years of age with no maximum age
  • Studying on the programme must lead to a higher level of qualification in a new area of learning
  • Great for those who are completing or have completed a Foundation or Modern Apprenticeship and would like to develop further
  • Applicants must be both a resident and working in Scotland at the start of their programme (please visit SAAS website for funding requirements)
  • They should also meet the University’s entry requirements (see our ‘Entry requirements’ section)
“It is certainly an excellent opportunity for progression within your workplace and opens a lot of doors. You also gain an understanding on multiple topics that may benefit your organisation.”

Catherine Reid, Business Management Graduate Apprentice

Learning outcomes

The variety of topics covered within our Business Management Graduate Apprenticeship course helps apprentices to not only understand all the individual components that make up a successful business, but also how they come together and are implemented.
