There are currently 45 different clubs providing a platform for students to meet new people as well as try new experiences.

David Greenwood (Geology, 1982) shares his memories from his time in the cricket club.

“I studied geology at the University of Dundee from 1978-1982. After graduating most job opportunities in geology were overseas, and so I emigrated to South Africa in 1982 and then moved to Australia in 1996. A few months ago I was surfing the web, and came across photos of the Dundee University cricket team between 1979 and 1981, and the memories came flooding back. I contacted the University and Pamela Lawrence very kindly emailed me copies of the team photos.

I’ve always enjoyed sport (playing and as a spectator) and while at Dundee sport played an important part in my time at University. In summer I played cricket, though the weather in Scotland wasn’t always kind. I was encouraged to join the cricket club at Dundee by Simon Fearns the First X1 captain, who I knew from my home town in Yorkshire. Dundee had a good cricket team and dominated Scottish Universities cricket between 1979 and 1981."

"Memories are now a little hazy, it was 40 years ago, but I do remember that winning against St Andrews was always a highlight. The celebratory drinks after a match were most enjoyable as well. A great team spirit and talented players resulted in the team being crowned Scottish University Champions three years in a row, I’m not sure if any cricket team at Dundee has since matched this achievement. I wonder where the other team members are today?”

If you were in the team with David, feature in the photos below or have your own sports club memories and photos to share we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch, alumni@dundee.ac.uk
