Sport and Active Health member etiquette
At Sport and Active Health, we take pride in being an inclusive and welcoming space for all. We believe exercise supports both physical and mental wellbeing, and we’re committed to helping every member get the most out of their workouts in a positive, supportive environment.
To ensure our facilities operate safely and efficiently for everyone, we ask that all members follow our etiquette guidelines and booking declarations.
Gym etiquette
All users are asked:
- always wear clean clothing and suitable footwear for exercise or weight training
- use your mobile for apps and music - if you need to take a call pop out of the gym for a few minutes
- please store coats and rucksacks in the lockers provided
- be considerate to fellow gym users and avoid sitting on strength machines when not actually exercising
- return any equipment to its original spot once done
- please wipe down equipment before and after use
- no filming or photography in the facilities without prior permission
- please don’t use normal chalk as this may ruin our flooring
Swimming pool etiquette
All users are asked:
- store items in the lockers provided rather than benches and changing areas
- the use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in our changing rooms
- help us maintain the chemicals in the pool by showering before you enter
- for health and safety reasons, please do not shave in the changing rooms or shower area
- please avoid wearing outdoor shoes beyond the changing areas
- remember to bring your shower items with you into the shower area
- please avoid entering the changing rooms if you are wet
Strength hub etiquette
All users are asked:
- always wear clean clothing and suitable footwear for exercise or weight training
- not to bring food into the Strength Hub
- to only bring drinks into the Strength Hub in secure water bottles
- use your mobile for apps and music - if you need to take a call pop out of the gym for a few minutes
- please wipe down equipment before and after use
- be familiar with the safety features on the equipment
- to bring chalk in liquid form or a small bag/container
- dumbbells and EZ bar are not to be used on the lifting platforms
- dumbbells are not to be dropped in any location.
- only the five powerlift benches (on wheels) are used on the platforms. Please use the lever handle at the front of the bench to tilt it to 45 degrees and roll it on its wheels. Do not drag benches
- equipment should be cared for and used as intended
- blocks should only be used on platforms and put away after use
- bars with techniques discs can be used on the floor
- collars are used on bars at all times
- all weights must be returned after use
Riverside etiquette
All users are asked:
- no dogs allowed, except for guide dogs
- only confirmed bookings are permitted
- please secure your valuables in the changing room lockers
- children must be supervised at all times
- smoking is prohibited in all buildings and on the artificial pitch
- inform our staff of any injuries to yourself or your teammates
- outdoor boots are not to be worn in the reception area
- follow the guidance and instructions of SpAH staff - we are here to assist you
- alcohol is not permitted
- enjoy your sport - that’s why we are here!

Booking declarations
Exercise class declaration
To help us maintain the highest standards in our exercise spaces, please adhere to the following procedures:
- ensure outdoor shoes, large bags, and coats are placed in lockers
- wear suitable workout clothing and indoor, non-marking trainers
- if you bring water, ensure it is in a sealed bottle
- allow adequate time to sign in for your class. If your class requires equipment, we recommend arriving 15 minutes early to set up
- please arrive on time, as late entry may be refused - especially if you have missed the warm-up
- cancel your class via the app, by telephone, or in person at least 30 minutes before the class start time if you can no longer attend. If you do not cancel in time, a £5 no-show fee will be charged
- Active Living members may attend two consecutive repeated sessions only if a spot is available on the day. Advance bookings are not permitted to ensure all members have the opportunity to book a space (e.g., Tuesday Aqua, Wednesday Pickleball)
Sports declaration
I understand that,
- bookings are 55 mins for a single session or 1-hour 55mins for a double session (allowing 5 minutes for set up)
- I will be charged a no-show fee of £5 if I do not attend the session
- I can cancel a class via the app, by telephone or in-person up to 30 minutes before the class start time
- I must be dressed appropriately to participate in physical activity (i.e., training shoes, shorts/tracksuit trousers and top
- clean, white or gummed-soled shoes should be worn in the Squash Courts
