Psycholinguistics
Psycholinguistics is the study of relationships between linguistic behaviour and psychological processes, including the process of language acquisition
Mind Your Language Lab
The Mind your Language Lab is directed by Professor Alissa Melinger whose research is focused on how speakers find the words to best convey their meaning. Her research investigates how different semantic relationships impact word production as well as focusing on sociolinguistic variation, like dialects and registers.
Language Processing Lab
Dr Roger Van Gompel directs the Language Processing Lab, which explores the psychological processes which underlie language production and comprehension, with a focus on how healthy adults process sentence structure, reference and discourse.
Dr Yuki Kamide's research explores language, communication and cognition in 'context', through a variety of cognitive science approaches ('situated' cognition; cross-linguistics; bilingualism etc) and methods (eye-tracking etc).
Auditory Brain Lab
The Auditory Brain Lab, led by Dr Anne Keitel, investigates the neural underpinnings of speech, music and rhythm processing.
Language and Learning Lab
Dr Lynne Duncan leads the Language and Learning Lab, focusing on how the developing brain learns spoken and written language.
