You will be introduced to the research skills and methods relevant to Masters-level study in art and design.

Through weekly lectures, group discussions and tutorials you explore how to structure critical thinking, design and manage research, and communicate your practice.

Research and Development in Practice full module details

Module code: DJ51045 Credits: 40 Semester: Semester 1

This modules supports you to reflect on curatorial issues and challenges in contemporary art and design, engage with models of practice through learning about individual approaches, and develop your own curatorial enquiry using the university collections as a starting point.

Curatorial Studio full module details

Module code: DJ52050 Credits: 40 Semester: Semester 2

This module explores what takes place in the context of an exhibition, both in terms of 'curating' and 'the curatorial'. You will collaboratively curate a public-facing group project and develop a 'toolkit' in project management, collaboration, audience engagement, fundraising, documentation, and installation while exploring the production process.

This module treats writing as a form of creative and intellectual practice.

Drawing on methods such as dramaturgy, experimental fiction, performative writing, and site-writing, you'll develop an original piece of experimental writing alongside a critical reflection on your chosen methodology.

The module is delivered through a blend of online and in-person lectures, practicums, and tutorials.
