Biography
Bill is Emeritus Professor in Accounting. He joined the University of Dundee in 1982 and is currently a part-time lecturer on the Strategic Management Accounting module (5SMA) which he created and has developed since 2006.
Professor Nixon obtained a BComm from University College Dublin, an MBA from Warwick Business School and a PhD on Accounting for Research and Development from University of Dundee. He trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse.
After qualifying, he worked for the parent company of Thorn-EMI between 1970 and 1981 as a group internal audit manager with responsibility for liaison with external auditors and conducting investigations.
Bill has published extensively in professional and peer-reviewed journals in four disparate areas, namely R&D Management, Financial Reporting, Management Accounting Research and Management. He was an editorial board member of the journal R&D Management for 15 years.
Bill is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and a retired member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Bill has made various presentations to different bodies about his research for example the Inland Revenue Service, the Design Council, the Institutional Shareholders Committee, CIMA, and ICAEW.
His research has often secured funding from research councils as well as professional accountancy bodies.
