Biography

Pal Chana graduated from University College, London with BSc(Eng) and PhD degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is an Executive Director of the Mineral Products Association with overall responsibility for several products including Cement, Lime, Ready Mixed Concrete, Aggregates and Asphalt as well as all technical standards. Together, these materials have an annual value of £18 billion and represent the largest material flow in the UK economy at 1 million tonnes per day. His previous appointments include Technical Director and Acting CEO, British Cement Association; Technical Director Building Research Establishment and founder Director of CRIC (Concrete Research and Innovation Centre) in the Civil Engineering Department, Imperial College London.

He is a chartered civil engineer with over 40 years of experience in the cement and concrete industry, having led several joint venture development projects with industry, government and academia. His main interest is the development of industry best practices in low carbon concrete materials and construction. He has been a Visiting Industrial Professor at Dundee University since 2005, is the author of many peer-reviewed publications and recipient of several awards in recognition of his contribution to advancing knowledge in cement and concrete construction.
